David A. Koop was born in Fresno California, December 1958
He left home in his early teens and headed to the Pacific Northwest. He began his career in reforestation, starting out as a laborer, learning to speak Spanish from the other crew members. He quickly advanced to crew foreman and then to subcontractor.
This was the beginning of a long and varied business career that mainly included the creation or purchase of small and medium-size businesses. He then acquired some of their competitors and more profitable vendors thereby making a larger company, which he then sold, like monopoly just with real money.
Some of the businesses that Mr. Koop was involved in included reforestation, prepaid legal plans, light manufacturing, the vineyard and wine business, the Christmas tree industry, third-party administration, and business development.
During this time, Mr. Koop was featured in numerous articles in magazines and newspapers about his businesses and his successes including an appearance on The Good Morning America show as well as many local and national talk radio shows.
Mr. Koop’s pioneering efforts in the field of prepaid legal plans allowed him to become an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Denver University College of Law. He created a successful educational conference on prepaid legal plans held in Toronto, Canada. As a featured speaker on numerous occasions for the American Bar Association, his presentations consistently received the highest ranking.
Mr. Koop’s varied experiences and successes provided a foundation that allowed him to become involved in public speaking, a chapter of his life that he has enjoyed returning to. In addition to his keynote speeches, David and Carrie Koop “The Dynamic Duo” conduct a series of workshops designed to help people create successful and fulfilling partnerships at home and work. David and Carrie are both cancer survivors and bring a fresh perspective on life from the male and female point of view.
Mr. Koop has lived life passionately . . . traveling a large portion of the globe. Taking in the people, the cultures and the foods from many amazing places.
He does his best to live life to the fullest while enjoying traveling, scuba diving, sailing, motorcycles, gourmet cooking, wine tasting, and his Segway.
Introduced to sailing by his father at a very early age, he has skippered many boats from an 8′ El Toro to a San Juan 50’. Fresh water and salt, cruising and racing. With many fond memories and trophies to mark the experiences.
While at home you will find him on top of a hill overlooking the Willamette River. Spending time with his family is always job one!
